Experience That Shapes Every Horse

A native of Newmarket, England, Timothy Howell grew up immersed in the sport—his father’s work with Godolphin offering an early education in world-class horsemanship.

His riding career has since spanned Europe, Dubai, and the United States, reflecting a broad foundation built across diverse racing cultures.

With over 20 years of experience in the saddle and in preparing top-level horses at Juddmonte, WinStar, Calumet, and under William Haggas at Somerville Lodge (UK), Timothy Howell has worked with elite racehorses including Blame, Wise Dan, Justify, numerous Kentucky Derby contenders, and a long list of graded-stakes performers across the globe.

Those experiences developed a refined sense of feel, timing, and awareness—qualities that now define his rider’s perspective and hands-on approach to training at Howell Racing.

With a background shaped by some of the most respected operations in the sport, Jessica Howell brings a thoughtful blend of intuition, science, and horsemanship to Howell Racing.

Her career includes time with WinStar Farm, serving as assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Jonathan Sheppard at Saratoga Racecourse, and managing a racing string for Mike Maker at Arlington Park—experiences that refined her ability to evaluate, adapt, and elevate each horse’s performance.

Combining a scientific approach with traditional training methods, she utilizes Arioneo technology to monitor heart rate, stride efficiency, and recovery data, transforming those metrics into practical insights that enhance daily conditioning.

Equally focused on nutrition and gut health, she believes lasting performance begins with proper balance—where diet, rest, and routine support both body and mind.

Her analytical perspective strengthens the foundation of the stable, complementing Timothy’s rider’s feel and ensuring every horse benefits from both instinct and informed precision.
